Business owners and entrepreneurs are invited to attend seminars in September, offered by the Oakland County Business Center. The following classes will be at the Oakland County Executive Office Building Conference Center, 2100 Pontiac Lake Road in Waterford Township. “Five Keys to Successful Financial Management for Small Business — Fiscal Management Tools for the Nonfinancial Manager” is 8 a.m.-noon Wednesday, Sept. 8. The fee is $25.
“Pre-Business Research” is 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9. This workshop is free.
“Sales I: Effective Networking” is 9 a.m.-noon, Wednesday, Sept. 15. The fee is $40, which includes all materials.
“Fundamentals of Starting a Business” is a seminar for those going into business is 9 a.m.-noon Thursday, Sept. 16. The fee is $30.
“Fundamentals of Writing a Business Plan” is 9 a.m.-noon Thursday, Sept. 23. The fee is $40, which includes all materials.
“QuickBooks Essentials Session One” is 9-11:30 a.m. and “Session Two” is 12:30 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30. The sessions are $40 each or $75 for both. A 60-day QuickBooks software demo is included. Laptop is highly recommended.

Superior Synthetic Lubricants supplies oil for Special Olympics
Greg Plouff and his wife Vickie of Superior Synthetic Lubricants in Fraser, were asked by the Water Warriors for Special Olympics to supply the synthetic oil for the 22 wave runners that made the 400-mile trek from Mackinaw City to Harsens Island to benefit Special Olympics. Greg and Vickie are shown with the plaque of gratitude they received from the Water Warriors for their contribution.

Workshop aids job seekers
A free workshop for job seekers to make more effective use of the Internet during their job searches, “More Effective Online Job Searches” will take place from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, at St. Jane’s Hall 1, 38750 Ryan Road, Sterling Heights. It will be geared toward more effective use of the computer and software during job searches and job search sites, gleaning information from social media sites and sites to research company information. Handbags of Hope opens Donation Boutique
Handbags of Hope is opening a Donation Boutique at 56 Cherry St. in Mount Clemens. The nonprofit charity accepts handbags that it donates to 26 shelters and five teen centers in Michigan twice a year for Christmas and Mother’s Day. Supporters may donate their own gently used purse or take one from the Donation Boutique and add 10 filler items such as a hairbrush, wallet, manicure set, lip balm, hand lotion, memo pad, tissues, compact, mirror, sunglasses, etc. Donation arrangements can be made by calling Jackie Bobcean at 586-215-2050. SCORE presents business starter workshops
Detroit SCORE Chapter 18 in cooperation with Michigan Business and Professional Association presents workshops for people thinking about starting their own business. “Planning Your Own Business” is 8:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15, and “How to Write a Successful Business Plan” is 8:45 a.m.-noon Wednesday, Sept. 29, at Southfield Public Library, 26300 Evergreen Road in Southfield.
